This past weekend my Faithful Sherpa and I were at the Santa’s Helpers Holiday Gift Faire in Napa, CA. It was such a great show and everyone was in the Christmas spirit. Everyone but me that is! At the last moment, before closing the doors to the trailer to head off to Napa, I decided to include a bag of Christmas decorations. I’m really glad I did! Everyone at the Santa’s Helpers event had their booths decorated. Some with Christmas Trees, some with holiday decorations and light, and some vendors were dressed as elves! I love that they all got into the holiday spirit. So, I pulled out my little bag of Christmas decorations and strung the gold garland throughout my booth. I hung the red and green small wreaths up towards the entrance, and placed a gold star in the front of my checkout stand. That’ll do the trick. But it never dawned on me that I needed to wear something. It was about 11:30 on Saturday morning when a customer came into the booth. “Wow, those are great earrings” I said to her about her Christmas tree dangly earrings. And that’s when it hit. I have a black t-shirt, and jeans on, and nothing about me says Christmas. So, I did what every knitter would do. I knitted myself something out of what I could find around me. I pulled down all the gold garland, twisted the wire ends together and arm knitted a shawl! It was so great to see the reactions from everyone! “Wow, you’re sparkly!” “Man, you sure got into the holiday spirit!” One little girl walked right up and stared up at me with her eyes wide open. “Do you like my gold shawl?” I asked. She just nodded, with her jaw dropped and a glazed look in her eyes. “Do you like gold?” Her head nodded.
I’ve packed away my shawl and plan on wearing it to the two office parties I’m attending this week. Let’s see what reaction I’ll get out of my co-workers!
