I"m always telling everyone when you knit lace, you need to pay close attention. It's so easy to make one small mistake while being distracted by a glass of wine or the TV. But did I listen to myself? No! This is the fourth time I've used this pattern to create a lace shawl. It's really a quick knit, and the repeats are super easy to memorize, Or so I thought. I started knitting this shawl on Monday morning. Knitting is part of my regular breakfast, a cup of coffee, egg with toast and butter, and my knitting. At lunchtime, I pulled out my project, just to get a couple of quick row's in. That night, after dinner I started knitting again...with a glass of wine...and the TV on... Exactly what I tell people not to do! And by the end of the night, I looked at what I knitted and something didn't seem quite right. The lace ridges were twisted and going in the wrong direction. So I decided to tear it all out and start again in the morning. The next morning, I cast on again. 30 minutes later, my Faithful Sherpa overheard me say, "It's ok, I can live with that," as I was examining my work.
At lunchtime, I pulled out my knitting but again, somehow it was off. "It's ok," I reassured myself. I'll just keep working on it. But I couldn't handle it. I was completely off, again! So I tore it all out! "I thought you would tear it out." my Faithful Sherpa said during dinner, when I explained why I had to start over again. And now I've cast on this little lace shawl for a third time, I made sure I had my pattern with me, because somehow, even though I had convinced myself that it was an easy pattern to remember, I forgot some important stitches! I promise, I won't drink wine, watch TV, or do anything else to distract me while working on this project! And cross your fingers that I don't make any more mistakes! I don't want to have to cast on for a fourth time!
